What Mums REALLY Want for Mother’s Day (Spoiler: It’s Not Another Mug)

Ah, Mother’s Day. The one day a year when the world expects us to relax, be pampered, and feel appreciated. But let’s be honest – while we want to be treated like queens, the reality is usually a bit different. You know, the typical breakfast in bed (complete with crumbs everywhere), a homemade card that might be more glitter than paper.

What we secretly crave is simple: a bit of peace, time to breathe, and maybe—just maybe—five minutes to ourselves.

So, here’s what I’d love for Mother’s Day (and I’m guessing many of you might agree!)

A Day Off Mum Duties

Let’s start with the obvious. As much as we love our little ones, sometimes the best gift is simply a break from the usual routine of mum duties. We love hearing “Happy Mother’s Day, Mum!” but let’s be real: if you could be free from the endless “Mum, where’s my toy?” or “I’m hungry!” for a few hours, that would be bliss. A peaceful morning where you can drink your coffee (or juice as I prefer) and not have to jump into action for the tenth time before 9am? Now that’s what dreams are made of!

A Nap

Oh, the luxury of a nap. We’ve all been there, just wishing we could lay down for a quick snooze without someone asking “look mum” or “can I have a snack” for the millionth time. Imagine a Mother’s Day where you could retreat to your bed, curl up with no interruptions, and actually fall asleep. That would be the ultimate gift.

A Peaceful Meal

A family meal sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? But there’s that moment when you realise you haven’t eaten anything warm since you started serving food to everyone else. Maybe you’re in the middle of cutting up someone’s chicken nuggets, trying to get everyone to sit down and your own meal has gone cold. And yet, you wouldn’t change it for the world…well, maybe just a warm meal would be nice for once.

A Quiet Moment (Or Ten)

Let’s be honest, we all crave a little peace and quiet. Whether it’s a moment to read a book in silence or just to sit and think without someone needing you, a peaceful moment is so valuable. Picture this: a whole afternoon where you get to do absolutely nothing except enjoy the stillness. No requests, no noise, just some well-deserved “me time.” (Or even just a bathroom break without anyone knocking on the door!)

A Family Adventure Without the Stress

Let’s admit it, we love spending time with our families, but planning a big day out can feel like running a military operation. But what if Mother’s Day could be about creating fun memories without the usual stress of planning, packing snacks and dealing with tantrums? Imagine an easy-going day out, where everyone’s happy, relaxed, and enjoying each other’s company. No meltdowns, no rushing around. That’s the kind of Mother’s Day we’d happily sign up for!

So, while I don’t have all the answers on how we can get that perfect day of peace and relaxation, I can offer a day out or gift idea that’s stress-free, fun for the whole family and capture beautiful moments that will last long after the day is over. What if you could treat yourself (or someone else) to an experience that’s actually fun and relaxing, all while getting beautiful keepsakes to look back on? That’s where a Sensory Friendly Photo Shoot would be perfect!

Imagine having a fun, relaxed photo shoot with your little ones in a peaceful environment, capturing genuine moments of joy without the usual stress. It’s the perfect way to preserve the magic of Mother’s Day in a way that’s comfortable, memorable and where most of the planning is done for you. Plus, you’ll have stunning photos to look back on for years to come - far better than trying to capture that perfect family photo with a phone camera in the chaos of the day!
