National Autism Awareness Day: Creating Stress-Free Photo Sessions for Autistic Children

Today is National Autism Awareness Day, a day that means a lot to me both personally and professionally.

I aimed to create a photography business that truly supports families like mine because because I understand how difficult traditional photo shoots can be for autistic children and those with sensory needs. Many families can feel that professional photography isn’t an option for them. Sessions can be overwhelming, rigid, or simply not suited to how their child engages with the world. I wanted to change that.

My approach is about making photography accessible and comfortable for every child. There are no expectations to pose a certain way or to stay still. I create a relaxed, sensory-friendly environment where children can be themselves and where families don’t have to worry about whether a session will work. Every child deserves to have their moments captured in a way that reflects who they truly are.

Recently I have been connecting with other SEN-friendly local businesses and I am excited about the collaborations ahead. It is inspiring to work alongside people who share the same goal of making experiences more inclusive and ensuring families feel seen and supported.

Autism awareness is about more than just understanding. It is about actively creating spaces where autistic children and their families feel welcome, valued, and included. That is what I strive for in my photography and I am proud to be part of a growing community that feels the same.
