Designed With Autistic Children In Mind

A Gentle Approach to Child Photography

As a child photographer, I understand that a photo shoots can be overwhelming. New surroundings, unfamiliar people and the pressure to “smile for the camera” can be a lot. That’s why I offer Sensory Friendly Photo Sessions, designed with comfort, patience and understanding at their heart.

These sessions are perfect for children who may have sensory needs, including those who are Autistic, have ADHD, anxiety or simply feel more comfortable in a low-pressure environment. But in truth, every child benefits from a sensory friendly approach - because when children feel safe and at ease, their real personalities can shine through.

Making Professional Photography Accessible to All Families

I bring patience, understanding and the experience to know when to gently guide a session and when to step back. And if things just aren’t working on the day? That’s okay. We try again when your child is ready.

Why capture a moment that isn’t a memory you want to keep?

Why This Matters to Me

I know how special it is to have beautiful portraits of your child as they grow. Not just the photos themselves, but the experience of creating them together. With my own son, I’ve cherished the moments spent exploring new places, playing and capturing memories through my camera - exactly as they happen.

And that’s what I want to give to other families: a chance to enjoy a fun, relaxed experience with your child without the stress of

“will this work for us?”

or

“what if things don’t go to plan?”

Because if they don’t, that’s okay. There’s no pressure, no expectations - just the freedom to pause, adapt or try again another day.

My goal is simple: to make professional photography truly accessible and inclusive, so every family has the chance to capture these special moments, no matter their child’s needs or worries.

As my business grows, I’ll continue working to create more opportunities for families like mine and yours, to ensure that no one is left wondering if photography is “for them.” Because it is, and it always should be.

What I Offer

At the heart of my photography is a deep understanding of the diverse needs of each child. My sensory friendly sessions focus on creating a relaxed and inclusive environment where children can be themselves.

Flexible Sessions

No time limits or rigid schedules - sessions flow at your child’s pace.

Meltdown-Friendly Spaces

Outbursts, meltdowns, or offbeat conversations are never an issue.

Play-Centred Approach

Fun activities and play take priority over structured posing, making the experience enjoyable for your child.

Low Sensory Input

Bright flashes, loud noises and overwhelming instructions? Not in my sessions. I use natural light whenever possible, give little direction (if any) and keep the environment relaxed.

Personalised Preparation

I take time to get to know your child, their communication methods, and how they handle transitions to ensure the session feels safe and welcoming. I have experience using basic Makaton and PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) to support children who use alternative ways to communicate. Families can receive photo stories and tips before the session, and will recieve a detailed questionnaire to help me understand your child better. I vet locations in advance, considering factors like sensory triggers, possible crowds, space for movement and engaging activities.

Comfort First

I offer some clothing options within my client wardrobe designed with sensory aspects in mind.

Fun, flexible photo sessions tailored for autistic children in the beautiful Cotswolds

No pressure, no time limits - just genuine moments and happy memories

Being autistic myself with sensory processing challenges, I deeply understand the impact that environments and interactions can have. I also have a qualification in Understanding Autism and years of experience photographing children with additional needs.

Most importantly, I learned child photography by capturing the everyday moments of my own autistic son while he grew up - so I truly know the importance of patience, trust, flexibility and understanding to help produce beautiful images you will treasure for a lifetime.

Location

Based in the picturesque Cotswolds, I offer photo sessions in some of the most beautiful and serene settings in the UK. I take great care in selecting the perfect location for each session, and this process begins with me and my son visiting and vetting potential spots. My son, who is autistic with some sensory issues, is an excellent guide in helping me assess whether a space is suitable. He’s clearly lets me know when he feels uncomfortable in a space, helping me pin-point any possible issues with each environment.

When choosing a location, I not only consider its aesthetic appeal, but also what might engage your child’s interests and help them feel at ease. For example, if your child enjoys water play, I might select a quiet riverside setting where they can explore at their own pace. If trains are a favourite, a station setting could offer an exciting backdrop and a memorable adventure. My goal is to create an environment where your child feels comfortable, engaged, and happy, making the photo session as enjoyable as it is memorable.

Stress-Free Sessions, Lasting Memories

For Families:

My sessions take the pressure off parents by removing expectations and stress. You won’t need to worry about time limits, meltdowns, or your child’s mood. Everything is planned with flexibility and understanding, so you and your child can enjoy the experience

For Children:

I understand tradition photo sessions can be overwhelming for some children. That’s why I take a completely different approach, letting your child lead the way so they feel comfortable and in control. Rather than forcing poses, I encourage natural play and exploration, allowing me to capture their genuine expressions and happy moments.

There’s no pressure to ‘perform’ or stay still

- if they need a break, we pause. If they’re feeling overwhelmed, we can slow down or even reschedule for another day. Meltdowns, stimming, or needing time to warm up are all completely fine. The experience is shaped around them, ensuring they feel respected, comfortable and free to express themselves.
